BACK COVER SPINE FRONT COVER The Quiet Harbour A. N. AUTHOR THE QUIET HARBOUR 978-0-000000-00-0
trim safe zone barcode area spine folds outside the red line = bleed

/ WHY

A cover is not a picture. It's a print file with rules.

Spine width depends on page count and paper. Bleed has to reach past the trim. The barcode needs its own clear area, and text too close to an edge gets cut or folded. Get one of those wrong and the printer rejects the file — or worse, prints it.

Coverbook does the maths for you. You design on a canvas that already knows your book's exact dimensions, and the app tells you what's wrong before you upload anything.

/ WHERE WILL YOU PRINT IT?

One editor, the specs of each printer.

Pick your printer first. Coverbook sets up the canvas, the guides and the output PDF the way that printer expects them.

01

Amazon KDP

Trim sizes, spine, bleed (0.125") and barcode area follow KDP's specifications. Choose your paper and page count; the PDF comes out with no crop marks, as Amazon requires.

02

IngramSpark

Upload your book's official cover template. Coverbook reads the exact spine and your ISBN barcode from it, and exports in CMYK and PDF/X-1a, as IngramSpark requires.

03

Any other printer

Standard European sizes or a custom size in millimetres. Add flaps — extra width that folds inward to hold the book without glue — for a local print shop or a cover for your own library.

/ HOW IT WORKS

  1. STEP 01

    Choose the printer

KDP, IngramSpark or any other. That decides the rules the rest of the app follows.

  2. STEP 02

    Set the book

Trim size, paper and page count — or upload the IngramSpark template and let it fill everything in.

  3. STEP 03

    Design

Add text, images and shapes across back, spine and front. Keep text inside the green lines; the red line is the final trim.

  4. STEP 04

    Check & download

The print check flags problems as you work. When it's clean, download the PDF and upload it to your printer.

/ PRINT CHECK

Catch the rejection before the printer does.

Coverbook keeps checking your design against the printer's specs while you edit: text leaving the safe zone, text hidden under the barcode, spine text on a book too thin to carry it, images too low-resolution to print sharp, page counts the paper doesn't support.

PRINT CHECKAMAZON KDP

  • ✕ KDP doesn't allow spine text with fewer than 79 pages: “The Quiet Harbour”.
  • ! The text “A. N. Author” goes outside the safe zone and could be cut or folded.
  • ! An image is 180 DPI at this size (recommended minimum: 300). It will look blurry in print.
  • ✓ The barcode is inside the back cover's safe zone.
